Family Tablecloth

The backward "4" next to Jill's name betrays her age when she printed her letters on this, my mom's tablecloth. Over twenty years have gone by since I embroidered over the penciled markings of my daughter's childish marks. Just a couple months ago, I embroidered the additions: the names of Jill's husband Jacob and their beautiful 14-month-old daughter Kaydi-Paris.

Jill took this photo when our extended family got together earlier this month to celebrate my mom's "very special" birthday.

Seventeen other names adorn the round white cloth -- my mom's children, in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Since my needlework skills are limited to backstitching and counted cross-stitch, I took the tablecloth to a professional embroiderer and added my parents' names and their anniversary date to the center.

My parents were blessed with a loving marriage, four children, seven grandchildren, and -- so far -- three great-grandchildren.

Just wish Dad was still here to celebrate our family milestones with us.

I love it - I didn't see you present it to her but I saw it out! Can't wait to write our next little one's name on it.

A tablecloth like this is such a nice thing to have. It's especially sweet to see the handwritings of Mom's grandchildren who were so young when they wrote their names. Thank you all for your comments.

Hi, Johnnie,
Thanks for stopping by the MBT Ponderers! You're blog is so intriguing. I'll have to peruse it some more.
What do you write?

Hi, Beth. Thanks for stopping by. I'm in a critique group with your fellow-Ponderer Pat Trainum.

My first novel is historical fiction, set primarily in 1944-1947 and also contemporaneously in the late 1990s. You can read more about it on "My Novel" page.
